5 of the Worst Things that can Stain Your Carpet

Once the kids, together with their pets, have grown up and moved out of the house and you think that all your carpet cleaning problems will be a thing of the past most people are happy to see the old carpets being ripped up and beautiful new, CLEAN carpets adorning their floors.

However, little do they know that it was not only the children and their pets that were contributing to the dirty carpets but have now realized that adults appear to be causing stains on the carpets just as much as them.

Within a few months of putting in the new carpets one can go through coffee, motor oil, lipstick, candle wax, red wine, tomato sauce, ketchup and gum stains.

Fortunately, thanks to the Internet, one can manage to remove most of the stains.

Coffee stains can be removed by immediately taking an absorbent cloth and dabbing at the stain in order to absorb the excess without rubbing.  Water should then be poured on the spill which should be blotted again with an absorbent cloth.

Motor Oil, Lipstick or Candle Wax should be cleaned by blotting up as much of the stain as possible and thereafter using shaving cream and working it into the stain with a toothbrush. After the cream is wiped away the stain should be sponge-blotted with cold water.

Red Wine should also be removed in the same way as removing coffee stains.

Tomato Sauce and Ketchup can be removed by using a butter knife to remove the excess ketchup and then moistening the stain with water.  A cleaning solution should then be used to get the rest of the stain out.

Gum can be removed by applying a couple of ice cubes to the stain so that it hardens and then scraping as much of the gum off as possible.  The spot should then be rubbed with vinegar and the remainder blotted.
